What is an ORCID iD?
The ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a 16-character unique identifier for researchers and scholars, established globally since October 2012.
Step-by-Step Guide to Register for an ORCID iD
Go to the registration page: Open the following address in your browser: https://orcid.org/register.
Fill out the registration form:
First and Last Name: It is generally recommended to enter your name in English (Latin characters) to make it more accessible to the international community.
Email Address: It is better to use your institutional or university email address, though you can add other email addresses later.
Password: Choose a strong password that meets the criteria specified on the page.
Select Visibility Settings: This option determines who can see your profile information. It is generally recommended to choose "Everyone" to increase the visibility of your work and make it easier to connect with publishers and other institutions.
Accept the Terms and Complete Registration: After confirming you are not a robot ("I'm not a robot"), click the register button.
Verify your email:
Go to your email inbox and look for an email from noreply@orcid.org (check your spam folder if you cannot find it).
Click on the link or button that says "Verify your email address".
After verification, your unique 16-digit ORCID iD (e.g., 0000-0001-2345-6789) will be displayed. Be sure to save it in a secure place.
What to Do After Receiving Your ORCID iD?
While completing your profile is not required to obtain the code, doing the following will help you get the most out of it:
Complete your profile: Add information such as your organizational affiliations, education, and employment history.
Add your research works: You can search for and connect to databases like Scopus or Crossref to automatically add your articles and other works to your ORCID profile. This ensures all your scholarly outputs are properly attributed to you in one place.
