Abstract
The purpose of this article is to study the conceptual metaphor of the Love in the poetry of Imam Khomeini (may God bless him) based on framework of cognitive linguistics. This study is conducted based on the cognitive theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The statistical population of this research consists of the collected poems of Imam Khomeini, with all the verses considered as the sample for analysis. The present study is library-based and descriptive-analytical, and the data were examined through content analysis. This article seeks to answer the following questions: what types of metaphors did Imam Khomeini use to express the abstract concept of Love in his poetry, and from which source domains did he draw to describe these concepts? The results of this research indicate that among the various types of conceptual metaphors, ontological metaphors are the most frequently used in his poems, and among the source domains, the highest frequency pertains, in order, to light, wine, and suffering/grief.
