Qualitative Evaluation of the Arabic Translation of Imam Khomeini’s Poems Based on the Theory of Andre Lefevre (Case Study: Divan of Imam Khomeini Translated by Mohammad Aladdin Mansour)

Abstract
Mysticism has an old connection with poetry and literature. Most of the
renowned mystic figures are also famous in the sphere of poetry and literature.
Since their works are adorned with the divine color of mysticism, they have left
us a precious legacy of poetry and literature. The present study is based on a
descriptive analytical method to study the Arabic translation of Imam Khomeini’s
Divan of Poetry by Mohammad Aladdin Mansour with the focus on the seven
patterns of Andre Lefevre. Attempts have been made to evaluate the quality of
this translation to show the spiritual and literary status of the Imam and reveal his
mystical thought for the readers. Since the mystical terms and concepts are very
frequent in Imam’s lyrics and the understanding of his mystical poems is difficult,
the translation of these poems into Arabic requires the translator’s high expertise
and information in both languages, i.e. the origin and destination. The results
of this study showed that the Arabic translation of Imam Khomeini’s poems
has a convergence with literal, metrical, phonemic, interpretive, and rhythmic
translations, while the approach of blank verse poetry in Arabic translation is by
no means compatible with the original Persian version.
