The author discusses the meaning of the term identity on the basis of various sources and then classifies it into collective and individual identities. In this article, individual identity refers to human being and collective identity to the ummah. The factors influencing these two identities from Imam Khomeini's viewpoint have discussed in the present article. At individual level, identity has been discussed from Imam Khomeini's cosmological, anthropological viewpoints. Also some essential characteristics of man such as comprehensiveness and infiniteness as well as his perfectionism and freedom-seeking have been discussed.
