Abstract
The main thrust of this paper is to comparatively study is bases, principles nad main characteristics of the theories of religious democracy from the viewpoint of Imam Khomeini and liberal democracy from the viewpoint of their main founders as a competing theory of government in the contemporary world. This objective is followed in three stages: introducting the main characteristics of the theory of liberal democracy, introducing the main characteristics of religios democracy with refrernce to the viewpoints of Imam Khomeini, and finally, comparative study of the two political theories from different aspects to find out their similarities and differences.
